Four Seam Fastball ()

4 – Seam Fastball

What ages should throw this: All ages, this should be the first pitch learned.

What does the pitch do:  When thrown properly the four seam fastball should go straight to target with little movement.

 Grip:
Across the seams so that when released all four seams on the ball will spin one after the other.
  • The ball should be gripped with the pads of the fingers not on finger tips or back deep in the hand.
  • The index finger and the middle finger should be on top of the ball with the thumb directly underneath. There should be some space between the top fingers
  • The ball should be held light but firm grip, and the wrist and arm action should be fairly loose when throwing so as to help get the most spin and velocity on the pitch.
  • At the release point the ball should come off the index and middle fingers with all four seams spinning in the same direction.
