Groundball Crow Hop Drill ()
Crow Hop Drill
Objective: To breakdown the act of fielding a ground ball and executing the crow hop so that the ball is: 1. fielded clean and 2. give yourself a chance at making an accurate throw.
Setup: outfielders, baseballs, coach
Execution: Very simple drill. The players will get in a line and one player will go at a time. The coach will hit or roll a ball to the player. The player comes and fields the ball like it’s a live game. Do a few reps directly at the player then roll some balls to their right and left forcing them to create the correct angle to field the ball.
Coaching Keys: The main things to look for are if they are fielding the ball in rhythm and not getting off balance as they come through the ball. There should not be wasted steps and the player shouldn’t be hopping real high when making his crow hop.
This drill focuses on the outfielders ability to go back on a flyball find the wall and still make a play on the ball.
