The Tee Drill ()
Hitting off the tee
Objective: The tee can be used for a number of fundamentals. For younger kids it can be used to work on head control. Older kids it is perfect for working on hitting specific pitches.
Setup: Home plate, tee, preferably batting cage, drop net, baseballs
Execution: Set the tee at the proper height according to the individual hitters strike zone. Try to be in a batting cage or on a field where you can see the flight of the ball, which will tell you a lot about what your swing is doing. It’s hard to learn when you just hammer the ball into a drop net. Set up the tee to the proper hitting depths determined by location. Hit line drives to the appropriate field.
Coaching keys: This drill will simplify things for the hitter. The ball isn’t moving so they can focus on taking the correct path to the ball. Be sure to watch where the ball ends up. It will tell you what mistakes the hitter is making. If it is a groundball to either the right or left it is most likely a roll-over. If it is a pop up then they are dropping their back side.
